Ed says "I don't think I can improve on what photographer Garry Winogrand famously said about his photography, "I photograph in order to see what the things that interest me look like as photographs". Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I even get paid to do so. I live in Cape Town, South Africa, where everything in the peculiar dichotomy that is life at the bottom of Africa, seems to warrant a photograph.
Yesterday, while dropping off the recycling, I noticed a man shaving outside a make-shift home of plastic and corrugated iron, 5 metres from the railway lines. It was an extraordinary site: the mixture of pride amongst the rubble and after a bit of a chat, he allowed me to photograph him. Next week I will be photographing farm houses and on it goes: always finding something of interest around me and then hoping others will find it equally interesting."
